String beans and lentils
Recipe type: Mains
  • ⅓ cup hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons caster sugar
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • 425g can of lentils, drained & rinsed
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 250g – 300g string beans, ends trimmed off
  • Chilli sauce to taste (I used teaspoon of SUPER hot chilli sauce)
  • 2 teaspoons crushed garlic
  • 2 teaspoons crushed ginger
  • 2 spring onion (optional: more to garnish)
  1. Mix hoisin sauce, vinegar, sugar & pepper in a small bowl
  2. Add 1 tablespoon of sauce to lentils, stir through & sit to one side
  3. Add the olive oil & sesame oil to a wok over a high heat
  4. Toss through beans for 3-4 minutes until bright green & begin to char. Transfer to a bowl, cover to keep warm & sit to one side
  5. Add chilli sauce & lentil mix to wok & heat through
  6. Add garlic, ginger & onions
  7. Stir through remaining sauce with 2 tablespoons of water, mix to combine
  8. Return beans to wok and heat through
  9. Serve with rice. Optional: garnish with spring onion stalks
